“My brothers and sisters in Christ, great is our Lord! Jesus never tires of His love for you.
Scripture tells us that He arises early to pray and serve…Come to His table and receive Him.
Take Him to each other. You receive the Eucharist and become the gift of Jesus to serve one another; to make holy all the days of our lives.”
Bishop John Noonan – Pastoral Letter

Ministry to the Sick and Homebound is a pastoral ministry of caring for those you love. We bring the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus to those who cannot come to Church. In this way, the sick and homebound are united sacramentally to the Lord and reunited with all of us in the Mystical Body of Christ through His Real Presence in the Eucharist.

“The Eucharist, as Christ’s saving presence in the community of the faithful and its spiritual food, is the most precious possession which the Church can have in her journey through history.”

Being a Minister of the Sick

The Ministry of the Sick and Homebound is a powerful way that you can give witness to the Love and Care of God in the Community. This Ministry requires training, but most of all it requires…

Your Presence

Giving the gift of yourself in loving attentiveness and in time spent and kindness shown toward the sick with words of charity and mutual help make every act of care to the sick a living out of the Gospel and a sharing in Christ’s healing ministry.

“Jesus is within each one of us and yet we do not see Him present. Remember Jesus speaks to us about recognizing Him as we are called to serve each other…We are called to go out from our comfort zone and be a Eucharist: to bring forth Jesus among ourselves and our brothers and sisters wherever we encounter them.”

Bishop John Noonan – Pastoral Letter

Who are Ministers of the Sick?

“Ministers of the Sick (MTS) are ordinary people who commit themselves to the visitation of the sick.” Ministry of the Sick – Office for Lay Ministry Development, Diocese of Orlando.

The ministry is provided by trained and certified lay men and women, ordained deacons, religious and priests within our parish and the Diocese. Potential Ministers to the Sick are interviewed by the Pastoral Care Coordinator.

They shadow an experienced minister to determine if this is the right ministry for them.  A Diocesan FDLE and FBI clearance is required for ministers who are serving our most vulnerable people.

Volunteers must be trained and fingerprinted.

If you would like to participate as a Minister of the Sick and Homebound, please, download the Application form and fill out, when you have it ready, please submit it to Sr. Maria Sagrario, SCTJM at the Front Desk at St. James Cathedral.

After we receive the Application Form, we will contact you as soon as possible.
