“Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.” Acts. 8:17
Confirmation is the anointing with sacred chrism by the bishop or priest, which signifies the gift of the Holy Spirit. This sacrament gives us special divine strength to share and “defend our faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ” and never to be ashamed of his Cross. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1285)
Teen Confirmation
Confirmation, along with Baptism and Communion, is part of what is called the Sacraments of Initiation into our Catholic Church. Through this sacrament, we are equipped and strengthened by the Holy Spirit to face all the challenges and struggles of life with His grace.
In St. James Cathedral, teens can start the process of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation at 7th grade. Please keep in mind that all teens that desire to go through the preparation are required to go through two years of Faith Formation track leading into their Confirmation. This may be accomplished by participating in a Catholic curriculum (through Catholic school or home school) or through the parish’s faith formation classes (6th grade Faith Formation/7th-12th grade Youth Ministry).”
Before registering your teen for Confirmation, please contact the parish office to see what steps need to be taken before receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.
If your teen is attending a Catholic school, there are a couple adjustments to the requirements that are stated on the Confirmation Program page.
More information coming soon on Adult Confirmations.
Please note changes for February dates for Confirmation Preparation.
